Event Highlights

Whitepaper Release: The report was unveiled during a plenary session by Mr. R.K. Goyal, Chairman, IGSC and Managing Director, Kalyani Steels Ltd. His keynote address emphasized the importance of collaborative industry action to scale green hydrogen integration in steel manufacturing.

Panel Discussion: A thematic discussion on green hydrogen followed the launch, moderated by Mr. Vishal Dev, Director – Sustainable Business at WWF-India. Industry experts highlighted India's potential to produce cost-competitive green steel and identified key enablers including procurement mandates, storage infrastructure, and domestic electrolyzer manufacturing.

Mr. Nagendra Nath Sinha IAS (Rtd.), Former Secretary, Ministry of Steel, Government of India, highlighted urgent investments needed in renewable energy, green hydrogen, carbon capture, and supply chain modernization, with special focus on SME inclusion and cluster-based renewable solutions.

Mr. Naveen Ahlawat, Head – Power to X, Jindal Steel & Power, emphasized the critical role of integrated stakeholder collaboration to scale green hydrogen adoption, carbon capture technologies, and real-world pilot deployments.

Ms. Camille Maury, WWF (European Policy Office), shared key insights on European policy evolution stressing regulatory certainty, financing innovation, and the impact of Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) as global decarbonisation accelerators.

Mr. Vivek Sen, India Director, Climate Policy Initiative, underscored the importance of a cohesive policy mix including carbon pricing, capex subsidies, transition finance, and performance-linked incentives to catalyze large-scale green steel production.

As part of the summit, IGSC hosted a panel discussion on “Decarbonising the Indian Steel Industry”, where industry leaders and experts discussed policy preparedness, financing and technology for low-emission steel, demand-side measures and the importance of global collaboration. On the side-lines, IGSC held its third member body meeting, chaired by Mr. Siddharth Agrawal (Co-Chair, IGSC & Director, GPIL). Members reviewed the coalition's progress, the feasibility study on renewable energy cluster for the green electrification of steel sector and discussed on the way forward for IGSC.
